A Message from our Founder

On March 11, 2019, my youngest daughter passed away from kidney failure and I became a mom again of her 4 children. Not much later, I learned that grandparents who accept the responsibility of raising their grandchildren is a growing phenomenon globally. The Grandparents Community Network was formed August 22, 2022 (as a 501(c)(3). Our focus is directly on the children and youth being raised by grandparents and kin.

About the Founder and Organizational Structure:
As the visionary leader of this organization, I believe that all things ultimately belong to God for God to bring honor and glory to Him. This Vision was conceptualized out of a dire need to address the pain and cries of a vastly growing ignored population.
Therefore, the values, principles, and structure of this institution are firmly grounded in my biblical beliefs and governed by the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Many of our affiliated members and leaders also share a faith-based worldview. However, we do not discriminate against or exclude those whose personal beliefs may differ, as we seek to embrace a diversity of perspectives while upholding our core mission and convictions.
The Problem

Grandparents who step into the role of primary caregivers often face significant social, financial, and emotional challenges. Although we are currently based solely in Texas we extend our support nationally.

The Solution and Impact

We exist to meet the often-overlooked needs of grandchildren and children raised by other family members. Our support extends beyond traditional resources, providing assistance with household utility bills, prescription medications, clothing, back-to-school supplies, car payments and repairs, gasoline, emotional support, crisis intervention, and other nontraditional needs.

Our work is currently funded through the Founder’s fundraising efforts and other financial contributions. We operate with a dedicated team of volunteers. Our organizational structure consists of five board members, including the Founder, who oversees day-to-day operations, along with two administrative assistants and two volunteer support roles.

Our mission:
The Grandparents Community Network, also known as (TGCN) is our founding arm that operates in its legacy mission — to uplift grandparents through advocacy, education, and direct needs services. Our mission is to secure the future of grandchildren impacted by systemic neglect, disparities, and broken support structures—many of which are tied to the devastating effects of substance misuse in the home. We equip these children with the tools, resources, and support they need for healing, resilience, and profitable futures.

TGCN has two additional branches. TGCN of North Carolina and TGCN of West Virginia. Please visit our websites at www.tgcn-nc.org and www.tgcn-wv.org.
